Alumni Notes

Jenica Brown (BCSP Spring 2016, Indiana University) recently wrote: "My time in Bologna, studying art history at historic Unibo while surrounded by medieval and renaissance art and architecture, helped convince me to pursue art history as a discipline. Since graduating in December 2016, I have been working full time while planning to attend graduate school. This spring, I was thrilled to be accepted into the art history master’s program at the University of Toronto. I will start next year, and I am so excited—especially since I will be focusing on art and cultural exchange in the late medieval Mediterranean area. My future motivates me to keep up my Italian language practice, which is sure to be useful for my research. I hope my studies will also bring me back to Italy in the near future!"
Kelly Doucette (BCSP 2011-12, Tulane University) moved to Boston after graduation to start her accounting career at PwC and several years later moved into the biotechnology field. She returned to Bologna for the first time since participating in BCSP in February 2018 and had a lovely time walking the streets and eating at her favorite restaurants from her time as a student. Two of Kelly's favorite memories from her time in Bologna are riding her bike everywhere and anywhere in the city and spending a weekend in Trieste with a group of BCSP students in the spring of 2012 where they all ran a half marathon with some of the most beautiful views of the Gulf of Trieste.
David Hutchison (BCSP 2016-17, Northwestern University) came to visit over his spring break. He looks forward to graduating in June with a major in Italian Studies and minor in Legal Studies. His summer internship with Ducati’s marketing department was a success. David made many friendships and primarily curated the English content of the multimedia and brand recognition projects. He remembers being on set for the making of a TIM advertisement in collaboration with Ducati.
Laura Rastl (BCSP 2014-15, Indiana University) came to visit in February. Laura graduated from Indiana University in August 2016, and is currently teaching with the SITE Program - Lombardy in Legnano. She finds teaching rewarding because education is an opportunity for someone to enrich their life, and she also learns so much from the students. She loves coming back to Bologna to see friends and to visit her favorite places in the city. Laura hopes to continue teaching English and to continue to use Italian in her everyday life.
Jacqueline Roth (BCSP Spring 2017, University of Wisconsin) and Francesca Tinari (an exchange student at the University of Wisconsin during the Fall semester 2017) came to visit the BCSP office together during Jacqueline’s spring break. Their friendship began in Bologna while Jacqueline was studying abroad and Francesca needed advice about where to live in Madison. Jacqueline never felt too nostalgic about Bologna because she had Francesca with her on campus. Jacqueline and Francesca will both be graduating this spring. Francesca is a student of Engineering at University of Bologna. She enjoyed the practical approach to the Engineering courses she took in Madison. She studied construction sites in the city and ways to make them more sustainable. Francesca recalls Game Day, the beauty of lake Mendota, trying cheese curds for the first time, savoring the local beer Spotted Cow. This semester Jacqueline is taking two courses in Italian. She enjoys reading Carlo Goldoni’s works in the course entitled “Special Topics in Italian Literature” taught by Stefania Buccini, BCSP Resident Director in 1999-00. Jacqueline mentioned that Delaney Egan (BCSP Spring 2017, University of Wisconsin) is taking the course with her. After graduation, Jacqueline will be moving to Nashville to work for Third Home, a luxury property and travel club, where she interned during her summers in college.
