emilia_romagna-map“The most engaging parts of the Pre-session were the excursions. It was a great way to get to know Italy and Bologna’s region, Emilia-Romagna. The trip that I found most interesting was our excursion to Ravenna. All of life’s modern conveniences could be found, but the city also boiled over with history – as much of Italy does. In particular i mosaici left a lasting impression.

Seeing these adornments in churches, baptisteries, and grand buildings gave me a sense of how profound the history of Italy is. Being able to understand (with the aid of our professor) the stylistic differences of these masterpieces made me feel a little more Italian, more a part of the culture in to which I’ve inserted myself.”
